The Happening

I was excited about M. Night’s new movie – his first R-rated movie as every commercial and review was quick to point out. I loved Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. I wasn’t all that thrilled about The Village, and I did not see The Lady In the Water. In reading previews, I came across one that spoiled the "twist" for me, and I was saddened by the weakness of the plot (I won’t spoil it for you). I figured I’d wait to Netflix it. Saturday, Jake and Jordan went to go see it, and both have expressed their disappointment in their blogs. Jordan even said that to rent it would be a waste. How sad. It seems that M. Night is pulling a Jean-Claude Van Damme as a writer – really good start to a career that is now tailspinning down into a wreck. Hopefully he’ll be able to pull it out and get back on track.

Hulk Smash!!!

Jordan and I went to see The Incredible Hulk on Friday night, and I must say that I loved it! I never saw the Eric Bana version because too many of my friends hated it, but it really doesn’t matter. This version was a reboot of the series, and it was really good. It had several references to the old tv show, including a cameo by Lou Ferrigno himself (he’s the guard who takes the free pizza). As a comic book fan, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the other movies (Thor, Ant-Man, Iron Man II and Captain America) that will lead up to the words I want to hear in a movie = AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!

I’m going to go broke

In the last two weeks or so, I have seen Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and Prince Caspian. My viewing wish list of upcoming movies include The Dark Knight, Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk and Wall-E, to name a few. I didn’t have this problem last year. Why did Hollywood choose this year to release all of these movies? On top of that, I got to see stills from the upcoming Watchmen movie, and I am so excited about that one. I really loved the comic when I read it back in the late 80′s, and when the rumors of a movie started up several years ago, I have been eagerly awaiting it’s release.

If you haven’t seen any of the three movies above – you should! Here are my reviews:

I thought Iron Man was fantastic. Robert Downey Jr was perfect as Tony Stark, and the effects were awesome.

I thought Indy was great – really captured the feel of the movies that inspired Spielberg and Lucas. I loved how they brought the storyline to the 50′s and the height of the Cold War. Indy as a war hero? Great!

Prince Caspian was awesome. I love the Narnia series, and I think this one was well done like the first. Great action, the cgi was on point and Reepicheep stole the show! Now I can’t wait until Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

The Replacements

One of my favorite movies of all times is The Replacements with Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman. Even though we have it on DVD and can watch it whenever I want to, I always tune in when it’s on tv (usually TNT). Tonight, as I watched it again, I realized that my favorite line in the movie has more meaning than I thought. Near the end of the movie, Falco tells his team “Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever.” I love that line, but tonight it took on a different meaning. Tonight, I listened to it as description of the Christian life. We experience pain in this world. We will get scars (now, I’m not sure about chicks digging them, but it’s part of the quote, so it’s somehow relevant). Jesus’ glory is forever. This world is temporary for us. We are aliens here, waiting for the time when we are called home. There will be times of pain, and we will get scars. But, it’ll be worth it, for Jesus’ sake. His glory is all we should be seeking, and it’ll be known forever. How awesome is that?! Until that happens, I guess I Will Survive will be our themesong – just don’t expect me to do the dance (I have two left feet).

More than meets the eye

Well, I saw the Transformers movie last Thursday, and I loved it!! I went in expecting a good Michael Bay movie, and got way more than I expected. The robots looked fantastic, and the fight scenes were well done. The story was cool, and the human character (Sam) was well played by Shia Lebouf. I can’t wait to see it again.
